Recently, there has been a growing number of children (and adults) with symptoms of fever, runny nose and conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the white of the eyes.
It causes redness of the eyes and yellowish discharge.
The cause is most probably the highly contagious Adenovirus.
Adenovirus can also cause other clinical syndromes, such as gastroenteritis (fever, vomiting and diarrhea) pneumonia (severe cough and shortness of breath) and a rash. The symptoms may last from

Hand in Hand Humanitarian Mission Quang Binh 2007
"It is probably easier to choose to help the richest of the rich, ather than the poorest of the poor."
The Family Medical Practice Vietnam went on another humanitarian medical mission from 13 May 2007.
Dr. Rafi Kot, General Director, FMP:
This was the second year we headed off on our annual rural medical project. It is probably easier to choose to help the richest of the rich, rather than the poorest of the poor. When I set trail to the Ho Chi Minh road for 8 days, covering some 1,200km and numerous districts, communes, border villages and other remote areas, I did not know what to expect.
Although working in Vietnam for 20 years, 7 of them in rural remote areas, it always strikes me how much is needed and still to be done.

Influenza 2007 - prevention is the key |
Prevention is the key!As the flu season is approaching, Family Medical Practice recommends everyone to be assessed as to whether they should get the flu vaccine.
Influenza is a disease that occurs in the winter months (and in the tropics all year around) and can cause disease ranging from mild flu symptoms to severe debilitating illness including death. The flu vaccine can prevent up to 90% infections caused by the influenza virus, WHO also recommends the flu vaccine for anyone living in areas threatened by the Avian Flu. Administration of the flu vaccine can prevent co-infection of the human flu virus and the Avian flu in the same person.
