Epidemic Conjunctivitis

Recently, there has been a growing number of children (and adults) with symptoms of fever, runny nose and conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the white of the eyes. It causes redness of the eyes and yellowish discharge.

The cause is most probably the highly contagious Adenovirus. Adenovirus can also cause other clinical syndromes, such as gastroenteritis (fever, vomiting and diarrhea) pneumonia (severe cough and shortness of breath) and a rash. The symptoms may last from
7 – 10 days.

Prevention of infection is reducing the spread of the Virus, by keeping sick children at home until symptoms are gone and maintaining good hand hygiene.

If your child has these symptoms, parents should seek medical advice from our pediatricians and will be advised to keep their child away from school to prevent further spreading of the virus.

Wishing you good health!!
