High-risk Cardiac Assessment for Coronary Heart Disease.

Coronary disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and 16.5% of all deaths can be attributed to high blood pressure. If you’ve been assessed by your doctor as being at high risk of suffering from a cardiac event, it’s critical that you undergo a full examination by a trained cardiologist to find out what preventive action needs to be taken to minimize the danger to your life and wellbeing.

A high-risk cardiac assessment means that you have a statistically greater chance of developing coronary heart disease. Contributing factors to this assessment include your age, gender, incidence of related illnesses (such as hypertension or diabetes), body mass index, hereditary conditions, smoking habits, and lifestyle. Most cardiovascular diseases can be prevented by addressing risk factors.

Family Medical Practice is now offering a comprehensive cardiovascular testing package (by referral) to provide all the basic screening procedures and a full consultation with a cardiologist. This will help you and your doctor to better understand your risks, evaluate your cardiovascular profile, and to help you take the next important steps in managing this threat.

Your cardiovascular screening and consultation session will take about one hour and will include:

  • Full consultation with cardiologist
  • ECG Heart echocardiography
  • Carotid artery Doppler ultrasound

Please bring with you any results you have from previous cardiac assessments and blood tests. The cardiologist will advise you of any further procedures or courses of medication required at the time of your consultation or as soon as possible thereafter.

These may include:

  • Lipid profile Glucose test
  • 24h Holter ECG or 24h BP Holter
  • Treadmill stress test
  • Coronary scan
